Annual picnic

The picnic is scheduled for Saturday September 5, 2009, Labor Day weekend. There will be a meeting at 4 PM and the food will be served at 5PM.

The association will furnish hotdogs and hamburgers, water and sodas and condiments. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish or dessert.

The picnic is open to all of ponderosa park; not just the association members. All are welcome. There will be membership forms at the picnic for those who may decide to join.

Scheduled Burn Along Ponderosa Road

Fire managers plan to burn 100 acres of accumulated slash piles from Monday, July 27 through Friday, July 31; weather conditions permitting. The piles are located in Ponderosa Park.

Specific days to burn are determined by current and expected weather patterns. These piles will be monitored and allowed to completely burn themselves out. Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area.

These projects are part of an ongoing effort to improve forest health by reintroducing fire into the ecosystem, reducing hazardous fuels, and creating defensible space around residential and high use areas.

UPDATE 8/4/09 Fire managers have cancelled plans to burn 90 acres of accumulated slash piles in Ponderosa Park this week due to hot and dry weather conditions. As conditions improve in the weeks to come, fire managers will reschedule burns as part of an ongoing effort to improve forest health by reintroducing fire into the ecosystem, reducing hazardous fuels, and creating defensible space around residential and high use areas.

The Future of the Association

We need some interested members to be on the Board. Carol Swedlund has volunteered as secretary - for election at the picnic in September.

Members interested in continuing the association can contact Allen Laudenslager at (928) 713-1613 or by email at President@PonderosaParkAssociation.org.

The Ponderosa Park Association is on Twitter

Twitter is a free service that lets you keep in touch with people through the exchange of quick notes.  If you join twitter and follow @PonderosaPark, then each time we post something you can get a brief message showing what we posted.

This does not replace the email list. To be on the email list either email Allen Laudenslager or just put a note in with your dues payment.

You do not have to go to the Twitter site to see the posts.  If you use any website that takes RSS feeds, you can have these announcements show up on that site.   Or you can put a widget right on your desktop.  You can even have them sent to your phone. (Which could useful if we ever sent out an emergency notice.) Click here for the Ponderosa Park RSS Feed.

Letter to property owners:

The Ponderosa Park Association has surveyed the park as to property that is vacant that has dead trees and/or an abundance of highly flammable brush.

We simply want to call our concern to your attention, as one of these property owners, in hopes that you will make your property more fire defensible.

There are some among us who would help with the cleanup, if needed. Our goal is simply to make our community safer from fire. We clearly have no authority to compel you to do anything with your property. However, we hope that you might join us in making Ponderosa Park a safer and healthier place to live.
