August 25, 2007 Ponderosa Park Association Meeting
Meeting held prior to Ponderosa Park Annual picnic
Officers Present: Allen Laudenslager, President; Connie Ellis, Secretary; Mike
Brockert, Acting Treasurer; Judy Midkiff, Board Member
Allen Laudenslager called an informal meeting to order at 4:25 p.m. Present at this
event were approximately 35 adults and six children. This was a disappointing turnout, and
it is important that all residents know that the picnic is open to ALL residents
whether or not they are association members.
Allen made a motion that the minutes be accepted without reading them. The motion was
seconded and passed.
Mike Brockert gave the Treasurer s report. The Association started with a figure of
$5,321.80. $1,374.29 was deposited. $868.49 was spent. There is a balance of $5,827.60.
Most of the income was from association dues. There was also a reimbursement from the
Central Yavapai Fire District. Copies of the Treasurer s report were made available to
those present. A motion was made to accept the Treasurer s report. The motion was seconded
and passed.
A dumpster will be made available to all residents on September 8, 2007. There will be
no charge to association members for the first load and a $5.00 charge for additional
loads. Non-members will be charged $5.00 per load. Allen asked for volunteers to monitor
the dumpster site. Mike Brockert, Allen Laudenslager, Ron Midkiff and Paul Koppy
volunteered.
Allen asked if members would be interested in purchasing a storage shed to house
equipment for the association (equipment such as a barbeque grill, sunshades, etc.). He
stated that an 8 x8 site-built wood shed would cost approximately $700 and an aluminum
shed would cost between $200 and $250. There was some discussion, but it was suggested
that this subject be tabled until the next formal meeting.
The Ponderosa Park Community Yard Sale is scheduled for September 15, 2007. Susie Brady is the contact and can be reached at 445-6557. Information regarding the yard sale is also available on the
Ponderosa Park web site.
Allen opened discussion regarding sunshades whether we would like to have a permanent
sunshade installed at the picnic site or use portable shades. He stated he purchased the
shades being used on this date at Big Lots for $10/each. This subject was also tabled
until the next formal meeting.
The subject of mailings was raised. Allen asked if we should do one or two newsletter
mailings per year to all residents. It was pointed out that there are new residents in the
Park who don t even know that there is an association in existence. Also, not everyone has
a computer or is interested in going to the web site to read the newsletters. Allen
Laudenslager made a motion that we do a mailing to all park residents to generate interest
in the association.
It was also brought up that residents can advertise in the newsletter, and it is also a
possibility that they can advertise on the web site for $10/year. Mike Brockert made a
motion that residents be allowed to advertise on the web site for $10/year.
Debbie Bean suggested a welcoming committee be formed and volunteered to chair it. She
will also contact realtors to ask them to let their prospective buyers know that there is
an association.
Pat Brockert suggested that Dick Weiss give a talk on gardening/planting tips at the
spring meeting.
Judy Midkiff announced that this would be the last year that she would organize the
annual picnic and asked for a volunteer to take over. No one volunteered at this time.
This subject should also be included in the newsletter and on the web site.
Estherlee Allen gave a short update on the Ponderosa Park Animal Friends group and
their activities. They are still looking for people who will foster cats, and offer
pet/house sitting services. Contact Estherlee if you are interested. Signs with
information on this subject are posted on the bulletin board at the entrance to the Park.
Pat Brockert made a motion that the association donate $25 to this cause. The motion was
seconded and carried.
Debbie Bean made a motion to adjourn the meeting. It was seconded and moved. The
meeting was adjourned and it was picnic time!
