July 21, 2007 Ponderosa Park Association Meeting
Officers Present:
Mike Brockert, President
Patricia Brockert, Acting Secretary for Anna Watson
Susie Brady, Board Member; Judy Midkiff, Board Member; Larry Peterson, Board Member
Mike Brockert called the meeting to order at 9:05. There was a quorum present for
election of officers.
Mike explained that our treasurer, Geoff Erb, passed away recently and therefore there
was no treasurers report. He said there are 54 paying members this year. He said we
had a balance of approximately $5,600.
There was a discussion about whether we wanted another dumpster this year. The first
one was funded by the Yavapai fire district.
Carol Hinkle made a motion that we have another dumpster brought in September. Susie
Brady seconded the motion. There was a discussion. The motion was voted on and passed.
Judy Midkiff made a motion that we have the dumpster in September. Larry Peterson
seconded the motion. There was a discussion. The motion was voted on and passed.
Mike explained that we must monitor the dumpster and that members may bring one free
load and each load thereafter will be $5. Nonmembers must pay $5 per load.
Mike pointed out the new decomposed granite load that had been brought this week to the
park area. He thanked Leslie Huff for bringing his ATV to help him spread the D.G.
There was a discussion about the annual picnic. The picnic will be the last Saturday in
August, August 25. The association will furnish hotdogs and hamburgers, water and sodas
and condiments. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish or dessert. The picnic will be
at 4:00 P. M. Because it is much cooler in the afternoon.
There was a discussion about whether anyone had done anything about getting some sort
of shade for the park area. Susie Brady said she had checked on that and there were
various options. There was a discussion about the different options. Paul Ackzen said that
his son had a storage shed that he might donate. Susie Brady made a motion that, if we did
get a storage shed, we should purchase three or four easy-ups for shade. Judy Midkiff
seconded the motion. There was a discussion and the motion passed.
Mike told the membership that we who have been serving as officers for the past years
need to step down and let some "new blood" come in. He assured everyone that the
old officers would help them in any way that they could.
Mike asked if there was anyone who would run for president. No one volunteered. He said
that Allen Laudenslager would take President if no one else wanted to run. Pat Brockert
made a motion that Allen Laudenslager be our president. Bob Cunningham seconded the
motion. The motion was voted on and passed.
Mike asked if there was anyone who would run for vice-president.
Paul Ackzen volunteered to do that. Judy Midkiff made a motion that Paul Ackzen be our
vice-president. Bob Cunningham seconded the motion. The motion was voted on and passed.
Pat Brockert told the members that she has been acting secretary for three years
because no one else would do the job. She said that she was not willing to continue to do
that, but she would help in any way that she could if someone would accept that office.
Judy Midkiff said that she thought Connie Ellis would be a good secretary but did not
want to nominate her because she was not present. There was a discussion. Pat Brockert
made a motion that Judy Midkiff talk to Connie Ellis about accepting the office of
secretary. Larry Peterson seconded the motion. The motion was voted on and passed. The
matter of electing a secretary will be put on hold.
Mike asked if anyone would take the office of treasurer. No one was willing to
volunteer for that. Mike said he would do it if no one else would do it. Paul Koppy made a
motion that Mike Brockert take the office of treasurer. Larry Peterson seconded the
motion. The motion was voted on and passed. Mike said that if there was anyone at the
picnic that would take the office, he would gladly relinquish it to that person.
Mike asked for a volunteer to fill the new board vacancy. Anna Watson volunteered to do
that. Larry Peterson made a motion to that effect and Susie Brady seconded it. The motion
was voted on and passed.
Bob Cunningham brought up the matter of dogs roaming free in the park and the problems
it was causing. Mike explained there is nothing our association can do about that. The
individual can take a picture of the dog and keep calling the animal shelter. There have
been times when people have been chased and threatened by dogs. The use of mace was
discussed when one is feeling threatened by a loose animal.
Carol Hinkle reminded the members that Esterlee Allen has started a group in the park
called friends of animals. She is trapping loose cats and having them spayed and given
their shots and making sure they are not carrying any diseases. There are signs in the
park when they have meetings of that group. Carol said Esterlee is looking for foster
homes to socialize the kittens after she gets them back from the vet and asked if anyone
would be interested in doing that.
Kristin Thompson said she would volunteer to do that.
There was talk about the silent auction that we had last year and how successful it was
as a fund raiser. Mike asked if anyone would chair that. Judy Midkiff said that Connie
Ellis would chair that if she had some help. Kristin Thompson said she would help with
picking up items for the silent auction.
The yard sale that we had planned to have this summer fell through because the person
who had agreed to chair it had a family emergency. Mike said if there was someone who
would chair it, we could certainly have it. Susie Brady agreed to chair it if it was held
in mid-September. Everyone thought that was a good idea so look for the signs.
Susie Brady told the members about a memorial that existed for Geoff Erb, who was not
only our treasurer but worked hard in furtherance of the association for many years. So
many people say they cant volunteer for the association because they dont live
here year around. Geoff lived in Phoenix and he was very active in the association in many
ways. Geoff passed away last month. His dream was to retire here and he and Terri had just
purchased the lot behind them last year so they could build a permanent home. Geoffs
goal this summer was to get that lot cleared for defensible space and his main concern was
the neighborhood not having to worry about all of the slash on that lot. He died just days
before he was to do that.
Pat Brockert made a motion that our association donate $100 to that memorial for Geoff.
Larry Peterson seconded that motion. There was a vote and the motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
