Officers Present:
Mike Brockert, President
Allen Laudenslager, Vice-president
Geoff Erb, Treasurer
Pat Brockert, Acting Secretary For Anna Watson
Susie Brady, Board Member
Larry Peterson, Board Member
Judy Midkiff, Board Member
The meeting was called to order by Mike Brockert at 10:04 A. M.
The above officers and board members were present and introduced.
Mike Robinson and Anna Watson were not present.
The minutes of the previous meeting were discussed. Allen Laudenslager made a motion
the minutes be approved.. Larry Peterson seconded the motion and the minutes were
approved.
Geoff Erb gave the treasurers report. We have $5,171.00 in the account to date
and Geoff stated that he had received approximately $200 this morning in dues. Allen
Laudenslager made a motion that the treasurers report be approved. Larry Peterson
seconded the motion. There was a discussion held. The vote was unanimous to approve the
treasurers report which will be held by Geoff Erb.
Mike explained that our association is a voluntary civic organization and we have no
enforcement powers; that we provide service to the community as a group. He also explained
that there would be one vote per household of dues paying members.
The items that were on the agenda included the annual picnic; the dumpsters that would
be provided for slash; road pick-up; a new committee, headed up by Estherly Allen,
regarding animals and animal care in our community; barbecues for our park; newsletters
being sent to the website; and signs.
Mike reported that our first dumpster would be in the usual spot on Indian Creek Road
across from Kaibab, on june 16, 2007. This will be provided free of charge by Yavapai
Central Fire District. This is for slash only; no garbage allowed. There will be no charge
for the use of that dumpster.
We are planning to get another dumpster at a later date, but we will have to pay for
it. They now cost upwards of $400 for one day. Members will be allowed to dump one load
for free and there will be a charge of $5.00 for each load thereafter. Non-members will
have to pay $5.00 for every load they bring. There will be no need to bag the slash, but
it has to be put into the dumpster. There will be no dropping of slash on the ground.
Susie Brady said that she would be glad to help anyone that was not physically able to
get their slash to the dumpster. Allen Laudenslager also said he might be able to help
with small loads.
Mike asked for volunteers to help monitor the dumpsters to assure there is no garbage
put into them and nothing thrown on the ground. Larry Peterson, Allen Laudenslager, Geoff
Erb and Ron Midkiff volunteered to help.
There was a discussion about the dead brush left by the people who had wood cutting
permits along ponderosa road. There are huge amounts of dead brush along the road that are
not only a fire danger, but in the event of a fire could close that road, which is the
main road to this area. Mike said he had called the forest service and received no call
back, and that he had written a letter to them and received no reply. In his letter he
said that, if he did not get a reply, he was going to organize a group to gather the dead
brush and move it back from the road.
Several other people said that they had also called the forest service and were told
there was a planned prescribed burn for the fall but nothing was going to be done before
then. Mike asked for volunteers for road clean-up on June 2 and also to help rake up the
dead brush. Allen Laudenslager, Carl Goff, Geoff Erb, Susie Brady all said they would be
there. We are to meet at 8:00 A. M. on Saturday, June 2, and need to bring gloves and wear
a long sleeved shirt. Refreshments will be provided by the association.
Mike explained that we had a silent auction at last years annual picnic and made
enough money to buy one or two permanent barbecues for the picnic area. There was a
discussion regarding the liability issue and the fire danger issue.
Dinah Owens wanted to know why we didnt add playground equipment to the park and
it was explained to her that the issue was voted down at the annual meeting last August.
Geoff Erb made a motion that there be no permanent barbecue grills purchased. There was
a second to the motion. There was a vote and the motion passed.
Mike asked Estherly Allen to tell the group about her new committee. She said that
Karen Sable, with Animal Disaster Service, has been working with her and providing her
guidance in this matter. There was a discussion about animals being evacuated in case of
fire, as well as pet sitters in the area. She also said that we need a clinic for
neutering/spaying animals in the area. Call Estherly at 443-9100 if you are interested in
helping with these issues. She has a meeting on the second Saturday of every month at 200
P. M. She will inform you where the meeting will be held if you will call her.
Debbie and Brad Bean have volunteered to handle a park-wide yard sale in the month of
June if we get at least six people signed up for it. The association will pay for the ad
and Brad and Debbie will prepare maps to be placed at the entrance of the park so that
people will know which addresses are having sales. There was a discussion as to the best
date in June and June 23 was the date that most people could do a yard sale. A sign-up
sheet was passed around and six people signed up to do a yard sale. Contact Debbie and
Brad Bean at 717-1254 if you want to do a yard sale and want your address on the map.
Mike thanked Ray Sola for getting our web site up and running. We will send a hard copy
newsletter to the entire park once per year. The remaining newsletters will be sent only
to dues paying members and will be put on the web site. No hard copies will be mailed
without written notice that you require one. Be sure and check the web site regularly to
see what is going on with the association. You can contact all of the officers through the
web site.
Mike said he made the self-standing sign that will be at the entrance of the park to
notify residents of road clean-up, meetings, annual picnic and other information.
Mike asked for open forum discussion.
Ron Midkiff made a motion that we put down some decomposed granite at our park area to
cut down on dust and make our little park area more user friendly. Susie Brady seconded
the motion. There was a discussion on the motion. Allen Laudenslager amended the motion to
giving the board discretion to pay up to $250 for DG to be spread in our picnic area.
Larry Peterson seconded the amendment. The amendment was carried and the board is
authorized to spend up to $250 for DG in the picnic area.
Susie Brady brought up the issue of a permanent shade cover. There was a discussion
about the matter. Allen Laudenslager made a motion that the idea be investigated and
decided at a later meeting. Susie seconded the motion. Susie and Allen will be in charge
of coming to the next meeting with some ideas and quotes for a permanent shade.
There was a discussion about the annual picnic. It was decided the picnic will be on
August 25, 2007 at 400 p. M. He asked if anyone would be willing to take charge of having
another silent auction. Connie Ellis agreed to do that. If you have something for the
silent auction, give her a call at 443-8458. This will be held at the picnic.
Dinah Owens read a letter she wrote to the sheriffs department concerning
speeding and unlicensed juveniles riding ATVs in the area. She passed the letter
around for people to sign it before she mailed it in.
Pat Brockert told the people present that we need more people to step up and take
office and serve on the board. The same group has been doing it for several years. In
order to achieve community, we all need to be a part of the association.
The next meeting will be held on July 21, 2007 here at the picnic area at 900 A. M.
Election of officers and board members will be held at that meeting. We will talk about
goals for the coming year.
Geoff Erb made a motion that the meeting be adjourned. Larry Peterson seconded the
motion. The meeting was adjourned.
